What is the Internet? Internet is a global computer network. It provides information and communication facilities. That is how simple the internet. Nevertheless, are people using it in the right way? Let us ponder on few aspects before drawing up a conclusion.
Communication
Earlier, letters were the major form of communication. Although phones were in existence, they were a costly affair. However, with the advent of the internet, the scenario has changed. Nowadays, it takes only an instant to contact a person thousands of miles away. An e-mail could convey messages in seconds and board meeting could be held using video conferencing. It has incredibly helped business and trade across the globe.
Information
In the information age, the quicker you can access the information, the more successful you become. Thus, the internet has helped people grasp information quickly and with ease. If not for the internet, people would have to rely on local libraries to gain information. Not for all people, the libraries in the vicinity would hold the necessary information. Internet has changed this situation and made information more accessible and feasible.
However, the internet has also paved the way to the death of book reading habits of the people. Indeed, internet provides the required information instantly. However, it is at the loss of people’s contextual comprehension and visualizing capabilities. The experience of reading a book varies from person to person, which cannot be experienced in any other form of media.
Games
A generation ago, games meant going out with friends and playing games such as football and cricket under the sun. Today, games mean playing PUBG under AC.
The present generation regards only the digital form of games. A 24 months old kid knows how to operate a mobile phone but does not know how to make houses using sand. Moreover, playing on a mobile phone prohibits the child from making friends. Making friends at an early stage of life is an important aspect. This has an adverse effect on the kids’ physical, mental and social health.
Adolescence
Teenage is characterized by scintillating thoughts and questions. Adults mostly fail to answer the question or simply does not have time. Thus, internet wifi modem is the resource teenagers use to get answers for their questions. However, it can be misleading sometimes. The teenage mind is volatile; a small deviation can ruin their lives. Therefore, more than the internet, it is an adult’s guidance an adolescent need.
Anything in the hand of a person, who cannot differentiate between good and evil, is a potential threat. A hammer can be used to nail a wall or a person that depends on the person who strikes it. Therefore, the internet is just a tool and its consequence depends on the user.
